A man who was walking in the Greenbriar I community Monday was hit by a car while crossing an intersection, leaving him seriously injured.

The accident occurred at 2:58 p.m. in the area of The Boulevard and Blake Circle, said Brick Police Sgt. Jim Kelly.

According to police, Michael Falcone, 75, of Brick, was struck by a 2014 Subaru Legacy being driven by Joyce Asay, 82, of Brick.  A preliminary investigation, Kelly said, indicated that the Subaru was traveling west on Blake Circle approaching The Boulevard. Falcone, on foot, was traveling east on Blake Circle, just approaching the intersection of The Boulevard.

The Subaru stopped at the intersection as Falcone began to cross The Boulevard, heading towards the vehicle. Then, as the Subaru began to turn right onto The Boulevard, it collided with Falcone in the intersection.

Falcone was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for treatment of his injuries.

The crash drew a large response from Brick police and EMS. Vehicular traffic on The Boulevard northbound was reduced to one lane of travel for approximately five hours during the investigation. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Brick Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

The accident is under investigation by Ptl. Daniel Fogarty from the Brick Township Traffic Safety Unit, Kelly said. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information related to the crash is asked to contact Fogarty (badge #211) at 732-262-1141.
