Brick police say a scam in which suspects pose as utility workers has been reported numerous times in the township recently.

According to Ptl. Victoria Finelli, officers have responded to multiple incidents where individuals represent themselves to be from utility companies and knock on a resident’s door.

“These subjects have been known to use distraction techniques for others to enter your home,” Finelli said. “If they claim there is an issue with your service, always utilize the number on your monthly statement and NOT the number they present for you to contact.”

Anyone who has questions regarding their services should likewise call the number listed on their monthly statement.

According to a statement from Brick police, utility companies do not have employees going door to door regarding customers’ monthly usage or service bill. Anyone who believes they were a target of a scam is asked to contact Brick Police at 732-262-1100.

Solicitors must have a permit registered with the township clerk’s office to legally conduct door-to-door solicitation.
