Watch: Vivid Twilight on Barnegat Bay as 2022 Wanes (Plus The NYE Forecast)

Despite two days (so far) of highs reaching well above freezing – including hitting the 50-degree mark Thursday – ice still lingers on the surface of Barnegat Bay, thin as it may be.

Shorebeat’s cameras captured some scenes near the Seaside Park municipal marina Thursday night after completing a story on a redevelopment project nearby. We’re happy to be able to share a video and some photos of what we caught.

The forecast from the National Weather Service expects the mild(er) temperatures to continue, with the mercury rising to 56 degrees under sunny skies on Friday. But patch fog is forecast to move in overnight, with New Year’s Eve (Saturday) topping out with a high of 53 degrees, but under cloudy skies with rain showers moving in after 1 p.m.

Precipitation is predicted to remain light, however showers will continue through the day, overnight during celebrations, and into Sunday (New Year’s Day). The overnight low on New Year’s Eve will be 40 degrees, and forecasters expect between a quarter to half-inch of rain to fall before the system moves out of the region.

On New Year’s Day, the NWS forecasts a return to mostly sunny skies with a high of 55 degrees with only light wind. On Monday, the observed holiday for New Year’s, skies will remain sunny with a high of 49 degrees.
