Wintry Weather on the Way, But Shore Will Avoid Brunt of Snowfall

The Jersey Shore will experience wintry weather Monday night into Tuesday, however the storm – which could drop between 3-5 inches of snow in North Jersey – will be more of a rain event locally, forecasters said. No watches, warnings or advisories were in effect, according to the National Weather Service, a departure from other portions of the state. The NWS predicts increasing cloudiness throughout the day Monday with a high of 40, along with light winds switching from the northwest to southeast as the day moves on.



By the evening, wintry precipitation will begin to encroach on the region. According to the NWS forecast, there will be a chance of snow and sleet before 7 p.m., turning to a mixture of rain and snow – possibly mixed with sleet – between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The precipitation is expected to turn to all rain after 10 p.m.

The overnight low will hover just above the freezing mark, at 34 degrees. It will also become breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 m.p.h., with gusts as high as 30 m.p.h. New snow and sleet accumulation of “less than a half inch” is possible, according to the forecast.

The weather system will continue into Tuesday, however by morning, the precipitation will be squarely all rain. The rain is likely to continue until about 1 p.m., after which it will be cloudy, with a high near 46 degrees. Breeze conditions will linger through most of the day, though winds will calm by evening.

Mild weather will return Wednesday, with the NWS predicting mostly sunny skies with a high near 49 degrees.
